Danza y Tronío (In 18th-century Madrid)

World premiere by the Ballet Nacional de España on 13th July 1984 at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid (Spain).

Choreographers

  • Mariemma

A choreography inspired by a group of sonatas by Fray Antonio Soler, a monk at the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, selected by Mariemma and framed by two compositions by Luigi Boccherini as an opening and a finale. The first is taken from La Música nocturna de Madrid and the last is his celebrated Fandango.

The work evokes the atmosphere of Madrid in the final third of the 18th century, when its light-hearted, carefree and bustling spirit had not yet given way to the unrestrained upheaval and bloody dawn of the following century.
