Call for Artist Residencies
The Ballet Nacional de España is launching this call with the aim of promoting choreographic creation and supporting Spanish dance artists and companies through the provision of rehearsal spaces at its facilities. With this initiative, the institution reaffirms its commitment to the development of new stage languages and to strengthening the artistic fabric. This residency offers an essential resource: time and workspace in a professional environment, together with the possibility of sharing the creative process with the artistic community and the public.
Purpose and objectives
The purpose of the program is to create a context that fosters creation, research and artistic exchange. Its main objectives are:
- To facilitate access to a rehearsal space that encourages experimentation and choreographic innovation.
- To promote the visibility of emerging and established artists in the field of dance.
- To foster the relationship between the Ballet Nacional de España and the national and international creative community.
- To bring creative processes closer to society, strengthening the link between art and community.
Recipients
Choreographers, performers and dance companies, both emerging and with an established career, may submit proposals for projects in the initial research phase or at an advanced stage of development.
What the residency offers
- Free use of rehearsal space at the Ballet Nacional de España’s facilities, subject to availability and the characteristics of the project.
- Promotion and visibility of the residency through the BNE’s communication channels.
- The possibility of holding an open showing or work-in-progress presentation, depending on the nature of the project.
Commitments of the residents
Selected projects must undertake the following commitments:
- Make responsible use of the space provided.
- Include the Ballet Nacional de España and INAEM as collaborating institutions in the project credits.
- Carry out a return activity that brings the process closer to the community, such as an open rehearsal, talk, workshop or masterclass.
- Respect the schedules and conditions of use established by the institution.
Selection of projects
Applications will be assessed by a committee appointed by the Ballet Nacional de España, taking into account the following criteria:
- Artistic interest and originality of the proposal.
- Feasibility within the framework of the residency.
- Track record of the artist or company applying.
- Contribution to the enrichment of the cultural ecosystem.
Special consideration will be given to emerging companies, provided they meet the established requirements.

- Duly completed registration form.
- Artistic dossier of the project.
- CV of the artist or company.
Call deadlines
- Opening: February 2, 2026
- Closing: February 16, 2026
- Notification of selected projects: February 28, 2026
- Residency period: until July 29, 2026

This call falls within the Spanish National Ballet’s mission to support artistic creation and contribute to the development and promotion of Spanish dance in all its forms.
