The Ballet Nacional de España boosts learning activities to attract youths to Spanish dance

In addition to its premieres and tours, in 2020 the Ballet Nacional de España will boost the learning project it has been carrying out for three years to create new audiences. Among other activities, more schools and groups will visit the company’s home and the number of didactic workshops in schools will increase. It will also continue to use the new technologies to make Spanish dance more attractive to young people.

The Ballet Nacional de España premieres Invocación at the Festival de Jerez

The premiere of Invocación will take place on 7th March at the Teatro Villamarta in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz). The first programme by Rubén Olmo as BNE director includes a tribute to bailaor and flamenco choreographer Mario Maya plus two shows never performed before, 'Jauleña' and 'Invocación bolera'. The BNE will also perform this programme in St. Petersburg on its first international tour in 2020.

El Teatro Real closed the year with Electra, a Greek tragedy with a flamenco touch

The Ballet Nacional de España performed Electra from 28th to 30th December at the Teatro Real in Madrid before a full house. Choreographer Antonio Ruz, with the collaboration of Olga Pericet, brought together contemporary dance and flamenco to transport Greek tragedy to the Spanish rural world that captivated Lorca.

We’re celebrating Flamenco Day

Ever since UNESCO declared flamenco an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at a conference held in Nairobi (Kenya) in 2010, International Flamenco Day has been celebrated around the world on 16th November. At the Ballet Nacional de España, we commemorate it every day, but in 2019 we did so to the rhythm of the ‘alboreá’ from the ballet Electra, which we performed that day in Murcia.

On 9th November, the Ballet Nacional de España took part in a charity gala held at the Gran Teatro de Córdoba to mark the 50th anniversary of the career of former Spanish National Ballet dancer and choreographer Javier Latorre.

Electra, at the Danza Málaga series

The BNE performed Electra at the Teatro Cervantes on 22nd and 23rd November with the special collaboration as guest artists of Sandra Carrasco and Antonio Najarro. This choreography was one of the high points of the renewed Danza Málaga series.

Electra, a tale of fate and revenge that blends flamenco and contemporary dance, comes to the Teatro Cervantes in Málaga

To avenge someone who committed another crime out of revenge. Blood begets blood, and that is the curse. The Ballet Nacional de España, directed by Rubén Olmo, will perform Electra, a version of the Greek myth inspired by the Spanish rural imagination, on 22nd and 23rd November at the Teatro Cervantes in Málaga.

Ties of blood can bring tragedy to a family when mixed with revenge. Electra could not forget her father’s murder and turned into a myth. In Murcia, on 16th November The Ballet Nacional de España starts its first season under the directorship of Rubén Olmo with this choreography by Antonio Ruz in collaboration with Olga Pericet.
