...in the low tide,
when reality is far away
and there are castles of sand
on the beach...
Gioconda Belli
Mareas (Tides) dives us in a world of waves, sand, saltpeter, seaweeds, moons, fishers of sirens… Mareas talks about the tides of love from the view of a woman locked in a reality from which she needs to escape.
The structure of this piece is inspired by the highs and lows of tides; the things the sea leaves abandoned on the shore when it ebbs, the strenght of the waves when they break, the calm that comes after the storm.
The approach of the choreography starts from the duality of the highs and lows of tides to dive into other dichotomies: masculine and femenine, reality and illusion; love and heartbreak; the established boundaries and the urgent need of oversteping those limits, of running away, of diving and leaving the tide to drag and leave us on a far beach of warm sands.
