Jota de La Dolores, a mi padre

World premiere by th Ballet Nacional de España on the 25th of October, 2012, at the Teatro de la Zarzuela (Madrid, Spain).

Choreographers

  • Pilar Azorín inspirada en Pedro Azorín

"Plácido Domingo has described it as 'almost Spain’s national anthem'. And indeed, the emotion conveyed by this magnificent jota is difficult to surpass: wherever in the world it is performed, it never fails to move its audience. Even more so when it bears the stylistic hallmark of Pedro Azorín, creator of a choreography that heightened the passion of Bretón’s music and showcased his remarkable talent for moving large ensembles across the stage. As custodian of his legacy and heir to his style, his daughter, dancer and folklore expert Pilar Azorín, revives the essence of the production that the maestro created for the Ballet Nacional de España in 1983. She now brings back to life the energy and love for the Aragonese jota that her father infused into every choreography devoted to this dance, which connects the many cultures of Spain. It is no coincidence that Pedro Azorín was named Jotero Mayor del Reino by some of Aragón’s most highly regarded specialists."
