“Golpes da la vida.

It is the motto of a man who, having reached a certain age, feels that he is no longer of any use to society and shuts himself away in his own sadness.

Life brings a young man across his path. His enthusiasm is rekindled and, drawing on the young man’s energy and youthful freshness, he tries to mould him according to his own wishes.

He passes on all his knowledge to him and imposes an iron discipline, for he seeks perfection in every respect. He sees himself as Pygmalion and plays at being ‘God’.

We all learn from our teachers, but we must also all be ‘ourselves’.

It is a difficult dilemma to resolve: happiness lies in occupying our own space while at the same time seeing our shadow reflected beyond our own surroundings.”
