Candelas, a young and beautiful Gypsy woman, passionately loved a dissolute and jealous Gypsy man who was stabbed to death in a brawl. Tormented by the spirit of her former lover, she turns to a sorceress so that her spells may set her free.

Carmelo, a young Gypsy man, loves Candelas, but she does not return his love, still possessed by the spirit of her lover. The sorceress, together with Lucía — a friend of Candelas and Carmelo, who had also been a friend of the Spectre — decides to use her powers to free her, summoning The Magic Circle, where Candelas dances the Ritual Fire Dance to drive away evil spirits. Despite this, Candelas remains under the influence of the Spectre.

Carmelo suggests to Lucía that she use her charms to seduce the Spectre. Following his advice, Lucía agrees and succeeds in making him fall in love with her, thus drawing him away from Candelas. The lovers kiss and triumph over the Spectre’s harmful influence, and he disappears forever, defeated by love.
