The Ballet Nacional de España returns to Riojaforum with Generaciones

The Ballet Nacional de España returns to Logroño with Generaciones, a mixed program of repertoire and new creation that starts from the tradition of Spanish dance and also reflects the evolution of stage proposals through several generations of creators. Generaciones establishes a dialogue between different sensibilities, styles and creative paths.

With the program Generaciones, Rubén Olmo, director of the Ballet Nacional de España, champions the need to recover the classics without losing sight of new currents. Alberto Lorca, Antonio Canales and Eduardo Martínez represent different stages in the evolution of stylized dance, theatrical flamenco and new creation.

The Ballet Nacional de España will give a single performance of Generaciones on February 14^th at Riojaforum in Logroño. Audiences will be able to see some of the most emblematic works in the repertoire, such as Ritmos, by Alberto Lorca, and Grito, by Antonio Canales. The first is a plotless choreography that its creator dedicated to Encarnación López “La Argentinita” and celebrates the visual beauty of dance in five movements. The second offers an overview of representative flamenco forms: seguiriyas, soleás, alegrías, tientos and tangos.

The program is completed by a solo by Eduardo Martínez, with music by Gerardo Gombau, Joaquim Nin Culmell and popular compositions. It is a contemporary work with its own personality, renewing Spanish dance by making it permeable to other styles. For its creator, the muleteer is an eternal traveller, a wanderer who follows the roads, leaving the trace of his passage behind. In that coming and going, he finds the true meaning of his existence.

Since its premiere at Teatros del Canal in Madrid in 2022, Generaciones has been performed in Terrassa, Granada, Madrid at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, and Zaragoza.
