Ballet Nacional de España holds a charity performance in support of Palestine at the Teatro de la Zarzuela

The charity performance of Afanador will take place on July 9th at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, with all proceeds going entirely to UNRWA’s humanitarian work in Gaza. Tickets can be purchased through the entradas.com platform at www.solidaridadconpalestina.es. A zero-row donation option has also been made available for those who wish to support UNRWA’s humanitarian response in Gaza without attending the event.

The Ballet Nacional de España will give a charity performance on July 9th at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, with the aim of raising funds to support the humanitarian work of UNRWA, the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees, in the Gaza Strip.

All proceeds from this special performance of Afanador will go entirely to UNRWA’s emergency programs, which continue to provide essential services in Gaza despite the enormous difficulties on the ground.

This initiative has been promoted by the Ministry of Culture and the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music, INAEM, at a critical moment in which more than two million people in Gaza are suffering the consequences of more than 20 months of Israeli military offensive. The population is facing an extreme situation, with access to food and water severely restricted and a growing risk of famine.

UNRWA continues to provide vital assistance in health, education, water and sanitation, protection, and psychosocial support, thanks to the work of the Agency’s more than 12,000 staff members in Gaza.

Afanador is the artistic proposal that the Ballet Nacional de España will present at this charity performance. It is a Spanish and contemporary dance show, created and directed by Marcos Morau. The production is based on Ruven Afanador’s photographic works on flamenco, collected in his books Ángel Gitano and Mil Besos.

Last May, the 2025 Talía Awards, granted by the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts, awarded Afanador the prizes for Best Dance Show and Best Choreography. In addition, this week, the 28th Max Awards for the Performing Arts 2025 awarded Afanador the prizes for Best Dance Show, Best Stage Direction, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design, and Best Musical Composition.
